Initiative | Food & Housing Security

We recognize food and housing security is not only a basic human right, but the cornerstone of safe and healthy communities

Studies have shown a direct link between housing instability and the risk of food insecurity.   Families or individuals who are experiencing financial hardship often have little money left for food after paying rent or mortgage.  The choice often becomes food or the threat of eviction which may lead to homelessness. When an individual experiences distress such as homelessness or hunger, their brain switches into survival mode, and switches of critical thinking and logic. Hopelessness and depression lead to harmful behaviors such as crime, substance abuse, violence and neglect.

We seek to assist in keeping people in their homes, support temporary housing solutions and ensure access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food options for all communities.
