A Virtual Reading by the First Native American U.S. Poet Laureate

The Olseth Family Foundation is delighted to have funded a virtual reading by the incumbent United States Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo, who is the first Native American to hold that honor. Ms. Harjo’s works often include themes such as defining self, the arts, and social justice.

The November 12, 2020 reading was organized by The Olseth Family Foundation in partnership with Riverland Community College of Austin, Minnesota and Central Lakes College of Brainerd Minnesota.

The Olseth Family Foundation purchased and distributed 1250 copies of Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise to area community colleges and indigenous students throughout Minnesota.
